General Socialization Notes:

I'm GREAT with kids! I like women. I get anxious around a lot of new people all at once, but if you tell me, 'Crate!' I know I'm safe there and will gladly go. I growl at men, but I do okay with them if I'm introduced slowly. Once you're 'my person,' I'll place myself between you and anyone new who comes into our home. I'll warm up to them if they sit down for a bit and give me some time, and of course some treats  I do Crate, Sit, Down, and Off very well. I need to re-learn Stay and Heel. I've learned Hold while my foster is on the stairs so I don't rush past her any longer, and I stay put at the top or at the bottom until she says, 'Break.' My foster has left me in the house alone for increasing lengths of time and I'm doing fine. I can be a little nervous on car rides.

Does Cashew like other pets?

I like them; I just don't know how to curb my enthusiasm, and it's a little off-putting, because I'm awkward meeting other dogs; I don't give social signals well. I run right up to them wanting to play and get in their face, and I don't seem to know that not all dogs like this. I'd probably do best as an only dog or where I can do very slow introductions and there is management.

Does Cashew like children?

I am FABULOUS with kids! I might even think I'm supposed to herd them sometimes! If they get particularly rambunctious, I run back and forth like crazy, wagging my tail, and I have to be reminded to settle down.

Favorite Toys:

My big, red bone-shaped Kong with peanut butter inside, especially if it's frozen and I have to work really hard to get that peanut butter! I also love my blue holey ball with ice cubes inside. Toss my blue ball and I'll hop and bound it like a bunny. I'll work on my 'project toys' for hours!

Ideal Forever Home:

I'd love an active family. I'd love daily hikes and maybe even someone who jogs regularly. A yard to run around in would be heavenly. I'm a great jumper, so higher fences are ideal, a 6 ft. fence for sure. I need someone who'll help me with my food allergies, and itchy skin. I do best avoiding grains, especially wheat and corn. 'Limited Ingredient' foods work best for me (especially single-source proteins; turkey, duck, and chicken.) I shed some, and daily brushing outside keeps that to a minimum. My skin itches and sometimes flakes; it's easily controlled with diet and an every-other-week bath with anti-itch doggie shampoo and a 5-minute cool water rinse. I'd do fine in a home with children and I'd probably do best as an only dog.
